Bearers, aliases and passage context

Gabriel in KJV, WEB Classic and ASV; translated glosses vary by dictionary.

Daniel 8 names Gabriel when the prophet asks about a vision. Gabriel is told to make Daniel understand it. Luke 1 names him in the message to Zechariah and the message to Mary. These are the cited appearances that identify the messenger; the name gloss alone cannot identify every unnamed angel elsewhere.

Luke's Gabriel says that he stands in God's presence and has been sent to speak. The passage gives a messenger's task. It does not call Gabriel an archangel in the quoted sentence. An account of ranks in later angel traditions needs a separate source and should not be passed off as Luke's wording.

The dictionary labels differ in how they express strength, man and God. A name can have more than one sensible English rendering without having unrelated secret meanings. Here the safest short answer states the common God-and-strength connection, then shows the actual source glosses.

Nothing in Daniel 8 or Luke 1 turns the name into a personal message for someone who sees a repeated number. Those passages address named people in their own stories. A modern prediction about a visitor's future would go beyond both the cited text and the dictionary entries.

How to study Gabriel

Mark who receives the message in each scene: Daniel, Zechariah or Mary. Record the task Gabriel performs and any title the passage actually gives him. Keep the dictionary gloss in a separate column. That prevents a claim about strength from becoming an invented ranking among angels.
